In this health pathway, students interested in the medical field take courses with a medical twist. This lab-centered curriculum is designed to prepare students to successfully complete college programs and become our future health and medical professionals.
The Academy of Medical and Health Sciences, AMHS, is a 3-4 year STEM-based Academy at Mount Miguel High School designed to meet the demands of the ever-growing health care industry. Students interested in the health or medical field usually join as a Freshman or Sophomore and begin taking A-G core classes with a health/medical twist. Guest speakers provide real-life insight and advice. Additionally students tour local colleges, universities and health care facilities on field trips. These experiences as well as the curriculum, including labs and training to use medical equipment, are designed to prepare our students to enter into rigorous post-secondary education programs in the health/medical field in order to become our future nurses, physical therapists, dentists, physicians, ultra-sound techs, paramedics and other health care providers.
Benefits of the Medical Academy include: A smaller learning community of like-minded peers, a team of dedicated and passionate teachers, supportive administrators and counselors, and a wealth of professionals and industry leaders supporting students in achieving their goals, opportunities for students to apply for internships and scholarships, learning becomes relevant to students, exciting field trips, “real-world” guest speakers, mentors, a wealth of community service and volunteer opportunities, and students become better prepared to succeed in their post secondary education and in the workforce.
