Theatre has something for everyone. If you are interested in acting, want to develop your confidence in front of an audience or just want to work backstage, all of this can happen in a theatre class. You will work individually and with groups to create original works, perform scenes and monologues as well as participate in a number of ensemble activities. In addition, you will have the opportunity to see live professional theatre and learn about elements of stagecraft and theatre production.
Theatre at Mount Miguel is a place where students are encouraged to explore and experience the joys of creating and performing live theatre. Students get hands on experience with acting, directing, writing, lighting, sound and other areas of stage craft.
Work with professional quality lighting and sound equipment in our state of the art black box theater
Produce two full-length plays a year
Faces of the Theatre- an annual showcase of short plays and solo performance pieces
Theatre 1/2 - Introduction and overview of the world of theatre (pantomime, improvisation, rehearsal and performance of monologues and scenes. Students will also study plays, watch live theatre and study theatre history.
Theatre 3/4 - Builds on ideas and concepts from theatre 1/2
Theatre Production Workshop - The focus of this class is stagecraft and production work. Students will learn how to design lights and sound, build sets and all other aspects involved in producing a show. Students will get hands on experience working as the stage crew for plays. concerts, showcases and assemblies.
Drama/Speech Workshop - The focus of this class is creating solo and group pieces for performance and competition. Students will have the opportunity to perform in school plays, showcases and assemblies as well as compete at speech tournaments and Dramafest.
