Personal illness, medical and dental appointments, funerals, court dates, religious observance, or other as designated by the principal. Important: A pupil absent from school under this section shall be allowed to complete all assignments and tests missed during the absence that can be reasonably provided and, upon satisfactory completion within a reasonable period of time, shall be given full credit therefor. Students who will be absent for 5 or more days, no matter the reason, are eligible to enter into an Short-term Independent Study contact. This gives the student an opportunity to access and complete all assignments during the absence. Additionally, the absence is changed to "Present/Independent Study" once the completed work is submitted to the counseling office. Thus the absence does not impact the student's overall attendance record. Please contact the counseling center G.I.S. Ms. Edwards or Ms.Ortega (Habla Espanol) at (619) 667-6439 to arrange for an Independent Student Contract. Email: eortega@guhsd.net or eedwards@guhsd.net
