California Senate Bill 172 (SB 172)

California Senate Bill 172 (SB 172), California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) retroactive exemption, was signed by

Governor Jerry Brown on October 7, 2015, and took effect on January 1, 2016.

The SB 172 retroactively eliminated the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) requirement for any student who

met all other local and state graduation requirements.

Key Details & Eligibility

Applicable School Years: 2003–2004 through 2014–2015.

Primary Requirement: Students must have completed their senior year at MMHS and met all school district and state graduation benchmarks.

Action Required: Eligible individuals must submit a transcript evaluation request with documentation.

What happens after: We will evaluate your academic transcript and notify you of the outcome.

If you qualify: You will receive your high school diploma with January 1, 2016, listed as your official graduation date. Your academic transcript will be updated to reflect the SB 172 exemption.

If you do not qualify: We will send you an email explaining why the criteria were not met and outlining any next steps.

You will need to submit a valid photo ID along with your fully completed transcript evaluation request.

State-issued driver's license or identification card

Mexican Consular ID Card (Matricula Consular)

U.S. or foreign passport

Military identification card

Please ensure that your ID is current and the copy is clearly legible before submission. If you legally changed your name, include the court documents.
